What happened at the Fair last night...

Genomes, the science of happiness, and the connection between nature and nurture—Richard Powers explored these subjects as he shared his latest novel, Generosity. Despite having his own genome sequence mapped (by GQ, no less!), he concluded that “Happiness is pretty complicated. It’s not a product, it’s a process.”

Cristina Rivera Garza, Pedro Palou, and Ildefonso Falcones presented stories and experiences as varied as the authors themselves: an imaginary hand hanging from a fishing pole, the work of a writer who is also a chef and soccer referee, and how a title evolved from a shared symbol within the Muslim and Jewish religions.

Twilight Tastings

Excitement was the word at last night’s Twilight Tastings. Over savory spring rolls and grilled chicken from Hard Rock, Miami Book Fairgoers discussed which authors they want to see at the upcoming Street Fair. Even the music reflected the keyed-up atmosphere with a DJ playing ambient house tunes.
