What happened at the Fair last night...

Ruth Reichl

Ruth Reichl whetted her audience's appetites with excerpts from her book Gourmet Today. On the menu – Elvis' favorite pound cake, the best lasagna in the world, stories from the test-kitchens of Gourmet magazine, and advice on cooking schools.  "America has become a serious food culture!" Reichl declared.

Boris Izaguirre

Venezuelan author Boris Izaguirre presented Y de repente fue ayer, his latest book. True to his edgy, offbeat personality, Izaguirre talked about Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who is one of his favorite characters, his fascination with cinema, and his fixation with Sara Palin´s son-in-law.

Barbara Kingsolver

Online newspaper articles, Sears clothing catalogs from the 1930s, and a trip to Mexico were some ways that Barbara Kingsolver researched her book, The Lacuna. "Literature is invented, but it's not fake, it's real." Kingsolver also shared how her current book tour is her way of "evangelizing for literature."
